My Pledge to You...

Your voice is important. As a member of the school board I will listen to our teachers, administrators, students, and taxpayers to determine what decisions the board of directors should make in developing our students and community while focusing on responsible fiscal management.

WASD OKs budget with tax increase

The 2017-18 budget has passed with a tax increase of .34 mills. I find this to be bitter sweet. Taxes were increased and I know many taxpayers, especially our senior citizens, will see another tax increase while not seeing an income increase. However, it is important to realize that the purposed tax increase in the beginning of the year has significantly dropped in the final budget and this is a big win for my supporters, who had great concerns about the proposed tax increases. We challenged the WASD in the primary election to find cuts and practice sensible tax spending and they came through; your voices were heard. I commend the decision to maintain a $7 million surplus. It is important that we continue to make sensible spending decisions with the surplus for any unforeseen expenditures that may arise and I look forward to helping with this in 2018. I would like to thank my supporters on a second big win and looking forward to another come November!

City school board OKs tax hike, yet hopes to lower it

You don't raise taxes until you cut all you can. An increase in taxes greater than the proposed 0.41M could come in June.

  • Deficit started at $2.6M (January) and now in May has dropped to $1.76 with a tax increase of 0.41M.
  • How else will we pay for $1.76M come June? More cuts or more taxes?
  • Tax increase would be $41 for a home valued at $100,000.
  • Still leaves the district at a deficit of $1,768,039.
